Circles: JEE Main Mathematics Question with Solution

The points of intersection of the line ax+by=0,(ab)ax+by=0,(a \neq b) and the circle x2+y22x=0x^2+y^2-2x=0 are A(α,0)\mathrm{A}(\alpha, 0) and B(1,β)\mathrm{B}(1, \beta). The image of the circle with AB\mathrm{AB} as a diameter in the line x+y+2=0x+y+2=0 is:

Why must α=0\alpha = 0 instead of 22?

If α=2\alpha = 2, the line ax+by=0ax+by=0 passing through (2,0)(2,0) forces a=0a=0. Then for (1,β)(1,\beta) to lie on ax+by=0ax+by=0, bβ=0b\beta=0, which requires b=0b=0 (since β=±10\beta = \pm 1 \neq 0). But a=b=0a=b=0 is invalid for a line, and violates aba \neq b.
