Why do acetals hydrolyze in acid if ethers are generally stable?

In an acidic medium, an oxygen atom of the acetal is protonated to form an oxonium ion. This turns the alkoxy group into a neutral alcohol molecule (R'OH). A neutral alcohol is a good leaving group. Resonance assistance from the other oxygen lone pair further stabilizes the resulting carbocation.
